| What is Kendo World?Crossing Swords & BordersKendo World is a combination of three types of media devoted to the art of Japanese sword fencing (kendo), and the dissemination of its vast practical, philosophical and historical aspects to the non-Japanese speaking kendo community.
Kendo World Magazine is a twice yearly print publication packed full of articles on kendo and related budo arts (iaido, jodo, jukendo, naginata, and koryu arts). The magazine was founded in 2001 by the editors Alex Bennett and Hamish Robison. Kendo World Magazine is published in Singapore) by KW Publications Ltd., which has also started publishing additional works on kendo and other budo arts.
Kendo World Forums are online forums where the international kendo community can interact with each other and the Kendo World Team, a very valuable experience.
Kendo World Online acts as a web-resource and helps to tie the magazine and the forums together. The website features articles from the magazine, event information, links to worldwide kendo federations and much more.
The articles for Kendo World are written by an international network of experienced martial artists spread across Japan and the world. Translations of articles and books published in Japanese, including our supporters Kendo Nippon and Kendo Jidai magazines, are included in many of our pages. We also accept submissions from qualified members of the martial arts community.
The Kendo World Team is constantly trying to improve not only the quality of the magazine, but the strength of the international kendo community. We would like to thank you for your interest in Kendo World, and look forward to seeing you in the forums.

I Want To Submit An Article, What Are Your Guidelines?Copyright:Kendo World Publications retains copyright on all published articles. Furthermore, once an article is published by Kendo World Publications, we reserve the right to republish it in original or translated form, in print or digitally. Please do not submit articles that have been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.
Kind of articles:As Kendo World is published bi-annually (June and December) articles concerning tournaments will usually become outdated. We are particularly interested in content concerning club or federation history and activities, technical analysis, martial art history, culture, personal experience and so on. Articles which the editorial board deem to be out of place for the printed magazine may alternatively be published on the Kendo World home page. In principle articles should be relevant to kendo, classical sword arts, jodo, iaido, naginata, jukendo, or Japanese culture in general. Interviews with notable practitioners and sensei are also welcomed. There are no limits on word length.
Graphics:Graphics and photographs are a welcome addition to submitted articles. Make sure that images are 300dpi or more to ensure quality printing. Please make sure to include the photographer’s name, when and where it was taken, and the names of all who appear in the photo, and a brief description of the contents of the photo for use as a title. If you reference the photo in the text, please include the filename of the photo at the appropriate place in the text within square brackets[]. The same copyright rules for articles listed above also apply to photos submitted in this way.
For example:

In general athletic activity, the large toe is usually the most commonly affected…..
Format:Please send articles as WORD files. If there are graphics accompanying the article, send them as separate files without embedding them in the text. Start each sentence with a single space after full stops.
Japanese names:Put the surname first. For example, “Miyamoto Musashi” instead of “Musashi Miyamoto”.
Macrons:In principle, we utilise macrons in Kendo World. For example, “bokuto” should be written as “bokutō” and “Yagyu Shinkage-ryu” as “Yagyū Shinkage-ryū”.
Italics:Italicise all Japanese words in the text. Words such as kendo and other martial arts should be treated as Anglicised words from the outset. in principle, italicised words should not be capitalised.
Numerals:Numbers 1-10 should generally be written as words. All numbers 11 and above should be written as numerals. However, grades should be written in the following way: 1-dan; 2-dan; 3-dan and so on. Renshi, Kyoshi and Hanshi should be capitalised and come before the grade. For example, Hanshi 8-dan etc.
Classical martial arts:It is often difficult to know where to break up the often long names of classical martial art traditions. As a rule, add “-ryū” (style or tradition) at the end rather than capitalising it and treating it as a separate word. For example, Yagyu Shinkage-ryū; Jikishin Kage-ryū; Niten Ichi-ryū; Keishicho-ryū and so on. Ryū names should not be italicised.
